The National Police reveals major changes inside the force. As reported, there are changes in command in the most important positions.
Police director, Mayor General Edward Sánchez González named General Amauri Van Troi Tejada Cruz director of the Dicrim, the crime investigations unit. Likewise, General Valentin Rosado Vicioso is the new director of the Dican, the narcotics division. General Cristóbal Morales is the new human resources director. General Ernesto Rodríguez is the new director of the Prevention division. Former spokesman of the Police, General Frank Duran Mejia is now in charge of planning and development. Colonel Miguel Balbuena is the new spokesperson for the Police. Colonel Modesto Antonio de la Cruz Carmona was appointed in charge of IT systems.
President Luis Abinader said on 1 October 2020 that his government is working on an important reform of the citizen safety systems that will be launched in January 2021. He mentioned the homicide rate in the country is 9.5 per 100,000 as of May 2020. He made the observations when meeting with the press corps that covers the Presidential Palace.
