Senator Bautista Rojas Gomez (Hermanas Mirabal-FP) became the second senator to test positive for Covid-19 last week. He is asymptomatic but will quarantine and follow health protocols. Earlier last week, Ricardo de los Santos (Sánchez Ramírez-PRM) had reported positive.

De los Santos and Rojas are both members of the senatorial committee that is assessing the candidates to the Central Electoral Board (JCE). Other members of the committee are José Manuel de Castillo Saviñón, Ramón Rogelio Genao, Antonio Taveras, Faride Raful, Iván Silva, Franklin Alberto Rodríguez, Melania Salvador and Franklin Romero.

Rojas is the fifth of the present 32 senators to catch the virus.
Other senators testing positive are the Senate’s president, Eduardo Estrella and his wife, and previously Yván Lorenzo, senator for Elías Piña. Franklin Alberto Rodríguez from San Cristóbal had tested positive after being elected but before taking office.
