Two people die in propane gas station blast

Two people died in Santiago and nine were seriously injured in the explosion of an LPG station in Licey al Medio, in Santiago. The deceased were identified as 66-year old security guard Francisco Trinidad and one-year old Baylin Ulloa. Trinidad had just arrived for work less than half an hour ago.

The fire started in the liquefied petroleum gas storage tank at the fuel station at around 6:20am on Saturday, 3 October 2020, and spread to six homes in the area.

After this tragedy, residents in the community of Limonal Abajo, where the affected homes were destroyed and the child died, oppose the fueling station’s reopening.

To put out the fire, nine firemen units were needed. The fire stations from Licey al Medio, Tamboril, Moca, Salcedo, Villa González and the Santiago Airport participated in the effort.
