The Embassy of Germany celebrated the 30 years of Germany’s unification by sharing with the Dominican people a symbolic tribute by the Berlin Philarmonic Orchestra to the milestone 3 October date. In a five-minute video, the Philarmonic Orchestra of Berlin plays the Dominican and German anthems and the German ambassador and Dominican foreign minister speak.
German Ambassador Volker Pellet says he had planned for the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra to perform in Santo Domingo at the National Theater to mark the occasion, but Covid-19 is not making this possible this year. He said he hopes the event will happen next year.
Ambassador Pellet says in the video: “Thirty years ago, the painful separation within our country came to an end. This is a reason for great joy for us. With a certain amount of pride, I can say that since 1990, a united Germany has become a politically and economically stable force. It uses this force to promote democracy, the rule of law, multilateralism, and to protect nature. All these values we share with our friends in the Dominican Republic”.
During the video aired on 3 October 2020, Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez speaks of the close friendship ties between the Dominican Republic and Germany. Alvarez said that the people of the Dominican Republic and the government unite to celebrate the unification of Germany. Alvarez called the unification a milestone in building a nation, an example for all humanity that has consolidated lasting peace in Europe. Alvarez spoke of the goodwill of the government to strengthen the friendship and cooperation ties between both countries. He recognized the leadership of the German government in these Covid-19 times.
