The Ministry of Public Health explained yesterday the Covid-19 outbreak in La Altagracia province. Bulletin #202 lists 166 new confirmed cases for the eastern province.
The top rank of the Ministry of Health explained the situation is now under control. Health Minister Plutarco Arias, Deputy Minister for Collective Health Ivelisse Acosta, Dr. Eddy Pérez Then, special advisor on Covid-19, and the Epidemiology Department director Ronald Skewes explained what happened and what is being done.
The Ministry says it has cordoned off Batey La Ceiba in Macao on the northern part of the La Altagracia province to avoid more disease spread. Some 58 persons of 60 persons tested in the Batey were positive. Of 426 tests carried out at the Anamuya Correction and Rehabilitation Center, 68 inmates tested positive.
Epidemiology director Dr. Ronald Skewes attributed the outbreak to many Haitians in the Batey. He said the Haitians were participating in a cockfighting sporting event, ignoring basic disease preventive measures.
The government ensured that the authorities had acted promptly to control the situation.
