The Ministry of Hacienda confirmed that the man who fell from floor 14 of the Government Offices Building (El Huacal) is 43-year old Juan Francisco Núñez. El Huacal is located at Av. Leopoldo Navarro in the National District.
The accountant was employed as a quality analyst in the Planning and Development Department at the Ministry of Hacienda since January 2019. As reported, the man barely survived the fall and was taken to the Dario Contreras Trauma Hospital. He died shortly of fractures in his arms and legs and general trauma before reaching the hospital’s emergency room.
He is suspect of having committed suicide. As reported, Núñez was not known to have children or a spouse. He lived in San Isidro in eastern Santo Domingo. Listin Diario reports that those that knew him believe the man committed suicide because he was depressed.
The Ministry of Hacienda denied the man had been fired. The Ministry said the man was described as a responsible, efficient and valuable government employee.
Listin Diario reports that on the same day, 7 October in 2015, another man also committed suicide jumping from the 14th floor of the government offices building.
El Caribe reported on the message Núñez left in a video made shortly before he jumped. He asked for support for his wife and his mother. He said he did not have personal problems but was under a lot of stress.
