
With President Luis Abinader scheduled to speak to the nation on the 2021 National Budget on Thursday, a N Digital news story evidences the wasteful spending that continues in government.
Turns out that a tender was called to replace the floral arrangements in the Ministry of Education central office. One of the participants sent in a bid for RD$692,828. The company proposes different settings for three and seven orchids.
The tender was posted on 5 October and proposals were being received through 7 October 2020.
After the story broke, the Ministry of Education announced on 7 October it has canceled the tender. The Ministry announced it is creating an oversight committee to review its purchasing.

Last week, the Abinader administration presented the 2021 National Budget Bill and included several new taxes that have met with much opposition. Economy Minister Miguel Ceara Hatton had earlier said taxes would not be increased. He said the government would be more efficiently managed to have savings. He had said taxes would be reduced to stimulate the economy.
