Diario Libre, the leading newspaper in the Dominican Republic, announced its managing editor, Inés Aizpún is promoted to executive editor. Aizpún is the director of the digital Diario Libre. At the printed newspaper, she replaces Adriano Miguel Tejada, who is retiring.
Aizpún becomes the first woman to direct a major daily in the Dominican Republic. She is a Spanish journalist who came to work in the Dominican Republic in 1987 in Ultima Hora, an afternoon newspaper. She later joined Rumbo newsweekly magazine in 1994. She married a Dominican, had a Dominican son and made herself a Dominican national, too.
She is an award-winning journalist, highly regarded for her editorials and independent criteria in her popular to-the-point editorials, where she tells things as they are. She has worked with Tejada since day one in building the leading media company.
“The future of this newspaper could not be in better hands so that it continues to lead in innovation and journalism focused on enduring values,” writes Tejada in an editorial today. Tejada is retiring on 20 October.
