A clandestine bar was shut down in El Ejido, Santiago. The bar operated within a Pentecostal Christian church. As reported, constant complaints from neighbors led the Police to check what was going on at the “church.” The patrons referred to the bar as “El Juidero” (The Rush). Northern Regional Police commander Eduardo Alberto Then said dozens were arrested and later released after paying fines of RD$2,000.
A video went viral over the weekend showing the “closed church” where a party was going strong after midnight when the Police raided it. Curfew in the Dominican Republic orders all businesses to close at 9pm on weekdays and 7pm on Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
