The Ministry of Public Health’s Epidemiology Department Coronavirus Bulletin #222 reports a low 165 new PCR confirmed cases. The total corresponds to the weekend.
A low 1,755 first PCR tests were carried out in time for the deadline of Bulletin #222. The 14-day average is 3,491 tests.
The 24-hour positivity rate is at 9.40% and the 4-week positivity rate continues to decline and is at 11.90%, new lows. The Ministry of Public Health reports active cases are maintaining a steady downward trend and as of Monday, 26 October 2020 deadline were at 19,458 cases.
Nevertheless, the country continues under the declaration of a National State of Emergency at least through 1 December 2020. The Ministry of Public Health is concerned that home and friends’ gatherings and increased mobility can lead to the same virus flare-ups that have affected other countries worldwide, mainly due to pandemic fatigue. There continue to be sporadic spikes in Greater Santo Domingo and the provinces. This situation is why the Ministry of Public Health continues to recommend keeping curfew and preventive measures. The curfew is in effect through 11 November 2020, from 9pm to 5am Monday to Friday, and 7pm to 5am on Saturdays and Sundays.
As per Bulletin #222, with the deadline of 26 October 2020, the Ministry of Public Health has registered 125,008 confirmed cases since the first case on 1 March 2020. Partial curfew has been in place since 18 March 2020.
The number of deaths is 2,226, including one death recorded and none in the past 24 hours.
In a population of more than 10 million, the fatality rate is 1.78% over the past four weeks. The fatality rate per 1M inhabitants is 213.04. The Ministry of Public Health reports that the average 1M inhabitants’ fatality rate for the Americas is 601.
Worldometer lists the 1M deaths per inhabitant rate for the Dominican Republic at 205. According to the 1M deaths statistics, people are less likely to die of Covid-19 in the Dominican Republic than in Spain at 755, Brazil at 739, the United States at 699, the United Kingdom at 667, Argentina 646, Italy 624, Colombia 594, France 544 and Canada 264, all major source markets for Dominican tourism.
The Ministry of Public Health report #222 indicates an increase in demand for ICU units for the first time in recent weeks. 19% of Covid-19 hospital beds are occupied (633 of 3,345 total available). Yet, 33% of the intensive care units for Covid-19 are taken (172 of 516 beds). The ICU occupancy rate has been rising after many weeks of decline.

The Ministry indicates that the newest allocated cases (more than 9) reported for the Monday, 26 October update deadline are: Santiago (87), Santo Domingo (20) and National District (19).
Haiti reports 9,026 confirmed cases and 232 deaths, for the 26 October 2020 deadline.
In the Americas, the Dominican Republic is now ranked 12th in confirmed cases after the United States, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Canada, Ecuador, Bolivia and Panama.
