President Luis Abinader had repeatedly announced he would be shutting down the infamous Supervisory Office of State Works (OISOE). Abinader had said the division duplicated efforts of the Ministry of Public Works.
The division of the Presidency has been the focus of major corruption scandals over the years. Yet, in the 2021 National Budget, RD$6.71 billion are allotted to the division, as reported in El Dinero.
Al Pais deputy Jose Horacio Rodríguez sent a letter to Minister of the Presidency Lisandro Macarrulla requesting information on the calendar the Commission for the Liquidation of State Entities (CLOE), created by decree 422-20 and set in motion by Resolution MIPRE-2020-06, has for the liquidation of OISOE.
“Our interest arises from the fact that the National Budget 2021 Bill, presented to the National Congress through the Chamber of Deputies, shows a considerable commitment of resources for this institution, amounting to RD$6,718,478,376,” writes the deputy in the letter addressed to Macarrulla.
