It is now known that Marcos Cruz García, the alternate of presiding Superior Electoral Court (TSE) judge Roman Jaquez, had been named deputy director of the Migration Agency (DGM). The appointment conflicts with Cruz’s responsibilities at the TSE. He now needs to return to the TSE to fill his role as alternate after judge Jaquez was named to preside the Central Electoral Board (JCE).
Diario Libre reports that Cruz García would assume the position until the National Council of the Magistracy confirms him in the position or replaces him. Cruz was appointed to the position as alternate for a four-year term that expires 21 July 2021.
The National Council of the Magistracy, the government body that names the judges of the higher courts, needs to be convened soon. Yet, there is a dispute in the Senate between Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and the People’s Force (FP) regarding the senator that will represent the second political majority in the CNM. The CNM would elect new members for the TSE that would be in their positions until the July expiration date.
