RD$300 million to renovate the La Vega free zone

Envisioning increased demand for manufacturing, President Luis Abinader announced renovations and expansion of industrial capacity seeks to add another 1,000 jobs in La Vega this year. He made the announcement when in La Vega over the weekend. He visited the La Vega industrial free zone park.

Proindustria (the Center for Development and Industrial Competitiveness) is the agency in charge of investing RD$300 million to build 10 new 20,000 square meter manufacturing plants and refit the centrally-located industrial complex. The La Vega industrial zone has 43 manufacturing plants of which 23 are in operation.

During the visit to La Vega, President Abinader also announced RD$400 million in government financing for agroindustrial ventures in the province. Of the amount RD$150 million is allotted to yuca (casava) farmers so these can industrialize the crop and export. Another RD$250 is allotted to rice growers in the area.

The President also ordered the reconstruction of the La Vega farmer’s market.
