Participacion Ciudadana gives public prosecution vote of confidence in start of corruption cases

The civic watchdog group Participacion Ciudadana went public giving a vote of confidence to the work carried out by the new prosecution authorities, under the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption Agency (Pepca). The first arrests were made early on Sunday, 29 November 2020 in the morning. The charges are expected to be presented on Tuesday, 1 December.

In a press release, Participación Ciudadana urged the prosecutors to not go beyond the prosecuting of the front men and collaborators of corrupt government officials. “They should reach the beneficiaries,” says the civic group.

“A vote of confidence does not imply blind faith,” says the press release. The group says everyone needs to follow up on the investigations, the searches, detentions, respecting due process and the rights of the accused.

Participación Ciudadana says it will be following up on the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s actions to document for history what must be a radical change in the conduct of the authorities in the face of corruption and impunity.
