The Alianza País Party (PAP) criticized the decision taken by the city councilors to increase the housing density in district number one of the capital city. The party calls for the revoking of the measure. Franiel Genao, spokesman for the political party in a press conference said that the measure will further reduce the quality of life in the National District.
The new disposition modifies the ordinance 85-09 and was approved by the authorities of the National District on 26 November 2020. Genao explained that this action was taken only to benefit economic sectors and that the measure is contrary to the capital city’s Plan for the Development of the Housing Density.
“Until the basic problems that are access to public services, such as water, rainwater drainage, sewage, green areas, traffic and urban mobility are resolved, we cannot think about increasing the population pressure in the city,” he stated.
The representative of Alianza País said the mandate will affect the neighborhoods of El Millón, Evaristo Morales, Ensanche Quisqueya, El Cacique, Mirador Norte, Piantini and all the other central districts of the city.
“We are not opposed to the real estate development of the city, but this cannot be done without an integral vision of the public space,” he said. “Housing is not only four walls, it implies answers to the needs that are generated by the increase in population,” he stressed.
