The Toros del Este of La Romana are ahead of the five other teams in the 2020-2021 Winter Professional Baseball Championship. The Gigantes del Cibao, Leones del Esogido, Aguilas Cibaeñas, Estrellas Orientales and Tigres del Licey are at most 2 games away from the Toros, meaning any of the teams can make the semi-finals scheduled for January.
On Tuesday, 8 December, Johan Mieses of the Toros del Este batted for a four-run rally and the win of the Toros del Este vs. Aguilas Cibaeñas game at the La Romana Francisco A. Micheli stadium. The games are played under Major League Baseball protocols and fans are not allowed in the stadiums. The Toros defeated the Aguilas 15-4 that evening. The games can be followed on local TV and online.
The regular season was extended to 23 December after play by the Licey and Gigantes teams was suspended due to player Covid-19 infections. Both teams will now have an intense schedule to recover for the lost play dates.
