
The Social Policy Cabinet of the Presidency is contracting leading Dominican orchestras and performers to compensate these for the present extended lockdown. The Presidency announced a first 20 are being hired to produce shows for TV and streaming. They will entertain Dominicans with performances of merengue, bachata, salsa, pop, tropical music, urban music, Tony Peña Guaba, the head of the Social Policy Cabinet announced on 15 December 2020.
He said the government is disbursing a good part of the RD$100 million allotted to the entertainment sector to 67 well-known artists. The payments include advance payments for shows and performances that will be booked once the Covid-19 pandemic permits.
The list of beneficiary artists includes:
Fernando Villalona, Wilfrido Vargas, Miriam Cruz, Eddy Herrera, Los Hermanos Rosario, Rubby Pérez, Johnny Ventura, Sergio Vargas, Milly Quezada, Frank Reyes, Zacarías Ferreira, Toño Rosario, Wason Brazobán, Anthony Santos, Conjunto Quisqueya, Hector Acosta, Raulín, Yiyo Sarante, Ilegales, Joe Veras.
Also Manny Cruz, Bonny Cepeda, La Insuperable, Mozart La Para, Sexappeal, Chiquito Team Band, Amarfis, Coco Band, La Materialista, Peña Suazo, Michel, Fefita la Grande, Geovanny Polanco, Krisspy, El Prodigio, El Chaval, Omega, Elvis Martínez, Ala Jaza.

The announcement of the RD$100 million for a select group of entertainers was not received well by many. N Digital reports that Waddys Jáquez is concerned the government has left out the classic performers.
