The Ministry of Sports ordered the shut down of sports activities in the Dominican Republic. Sport facilities need to remain closed until new notice.
There is one exception. The Winter Professional Baseball Championship is allowed to continue. The championship is taking place without the presence of fans. The games are streamed online and televised.
Sports Minister Francisco Camacho said the announcement is a follow up to Decree 698-20 issued this Tuesday, 15 December 2020, by the Abinader government that toughens restrictions for the Christmas days to keep Covid-19 virus in the country under control. The decree bans gatherings of more than 10 people.
