Drug operation ends in crash in Pedernales

A small plane crashed near Oviedo in Pedernales. The preliminary reports are that the aircraft had arrived from South America with two onboard. One of them died in the crash on Monday 21 December 2020 in the early morning, another survived. The survivor is identified as Brazilian citizen Victor Vinicius De Sirva. The plane was totaled.

The Armed Forces, the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), the Justice Department, state intelligence agencies, the Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) and the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) are investigating the accident.

As reported, seven packages of suspect cocaine were recovered near to where the airplane fell.

The law enforcement authorities have arrested three men, including the survivor and two that were near at the time of the plane’s forced landing.

El Dia reports the deceased was the pilot, an unnamed Venezuelan national. He died due to extensive body burns.

During the operation, the authorities occupied two vehicles, a satellite phone, electrical installations, light bulbs, several cell phones and other evidence.

The aircraft landed but crashed into a Toyota Rav4 owned by the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD). The plane then slid into some brush where it immediately caught fire.

According to the DNCD, in addition to the Brazilian citizen, two other men, Carlos Ernesto (Kuki Malote) Cuevas Perez and Erizon Terrero Medina,m were arrested for complicity in the drug operation. The DNCD said the two would have received the merchandise from the plane that flew in from Colombia.
