
President Luis Abinader issued Decree 724-20, dated 22 December 2020, creating Pro-Pedernales, a public trust that will enact the necessary infrastructure for the tourist development of Pedernales, a province in the southwest that borders Haiti. The executive act focuses on the importance of tourism development in the southwestern region for the improvement of the living conditions of the inhabitants and sustainable development of the border area.
The government is giving priority to public-private alliances as investment mechanism in the area. Fiduciaria Reservas S.A., the trust division of the state Banco de Reservas, will allocate the funds from the equity for the operation of the project. Pro-Pedernales Trust will have a duration of 20 years and can be extended if decided by the participants.
An administrative committee will coordinate the project implementation. Its members are the minister of the Presidency, as president; the ministers of Finance; Tourism; Environment, Public Works and Economy. The legal advisor to the Executive Branch and the executive director of the General Agency for Public-Private Partnerships are also part of the committee.
