Usually Congress would be taking a break until 27 February. Yet, given the National State of Emergency, legislators are convened to work. The legislature is acting after the president of the Chamber of Deputies motivated a bill calling for both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies to remain in session while the country is under a National State of Emergency. The National State of Emergency is scheduled to end on 15 January, yet the Abinader administration has already requested a 45-day extension that needs to be approved in Congress.
