Dr. Waldo Ariel Suero, the controversial president of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD), spoke out against the government contracting to purchase millions of doses of the University of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine for the Dominican population. Dr. Suero said he would not vaccinate himself and many other local physicians would neither want to be vaccinated because of the lack of effectiveness of the vaccine. Dr. Suero forecasts a significant increase of Covid-19 virus cases this January 2021.
Former Emergency Risk Management Committee for the Medina administration, Dr. Amado Alejandro Baez called Dr. Suero’s remarks senseless and ignorant regarding collective immunity. He said this is not the time to generate distrust for vaccinations by those seeking notoriety.
The Dominican government signed to purchase the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines a day after the United Kingdom approved the vaccine for the UK.
