
The National Council of the Magistracy (CNM) appointed Eunisis Vasquez Acosta, Maria del Carmen Santana de Cabrera, José Alejandro Vargas and Manuel Ulises Bonelly Vega to the Constitutional Court on Friday, 22 January 2021. The CNM also confirmed Francisco Ortega Polanco as judge of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ).
The judges will replace Wilson Ramirez, Katia Miguelina Jimenez, Hermogenes Acosta de los Santos and Ana Isabel Bonilla, whose terms in the Constitutional Court had expired in December 2020.
The members of the CNM are Luis Abinader, who presides; the presidents of the Senate, Eduardo Estrella and of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco; the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Luis Henry Molina and the Attorney General of the Republic, Miriam Germán Brito.
Likewise, the senator for the Hermanas Mirabal province, Bautista Rojas Gómez; the deputy Víctor Fadul and the judge of the Supreme Court of Justice, Magda Nancy Salcedo Fernández, who acted as secretary in the sessions of the CNM.
The National Council of the Magistracy began the public hearings last Thursday, 14 January and met for four sessions.
The new judges will be sworn in on Tuesday, 26 January.
