Canada is requesting PCR tests for travelers since 7 January. The USA is more flexible and accepts a PCR or an antigen test as of 26 January. Both request the tests be taken 72 hours before departure to Canada or the USA.
Now Spain has announced PCR tests carried out 72 hours before travel for those arriving from the Dominican Republic as of 1 February 2021. Children under 6 years are exempt from the test requirement.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Hotels & Restaurants announces that the first 100,000 antigen tests supplied by a South Korean firm have been distributed. The government purchased 400,000 of these so that tourists staying at resorts can test in time to take their flights to the US. Las Americas International says it has 50,000 tests for free testing of tourists at the Santo Domingo Airport, as reported in Diario Libre. The capital city terminal also says Laboratorio Amadita has installed a branch for residents and local travelers to test before their flight. There is a charge for these tests.
Listin Diario reports that several travelers could not make their flights on 26 January after not meeting the Covid-19 test requirement of the airline. The Las Americas International Airport spokesperson Monika Infante said that travelers should take responsibility for carrying out their tests prior to arriving to the departure airport. El Caribe reported that travelers that would have boarded flights in Santiago’s Cibao International Airport also lost their flights for not having the right tests.
