JCE rules on who gets taxpayer money for 2024 elections

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) issued ruling 001-2021 on distributing government revenues to political parties. The JCE ruled that only the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) have a majority status. The majority status means they will share of 80% of the total funds allotted to political parties.

The ruling is because these were the only political parties that reached the 5% valid votes considering the municipal, legislative and presidential elections in 2020. The PRM had 44.95 of the valid votes, the PLD 32.30%. The Fuerza del Pueblo of former President Leonel Fernandez received 4.54% of the votes. The FP had contested receiving a share of the 80% because it had received 8% of the votes at the presidential level.

The Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC), Country Alliance (AlPais) and Dominicans for Change (DxC) obtained less than 5% but more than 1% of the valid votes and will receive funds from the 12% allotment to this level.

Political parties that received less than 1% and more than 0.01% of the valid votes will benefit from the 8% of the political parties allotment. These are the Unidad Nacional (PUN), Bloque Institucional Social Demócrata (BIS), Cívico Renovador (PCR), Humanista Dominicano (PHD), Movimiento Democrático Alternativo (MODA), Revolucionario Social Demócrata (PRSD), Alianza por la Democracia (ADP), Frente Amplio (FAMP), País Posible (PP), Popular Cristiano (PPC, Quisqueyano Demócrata Cristiano (PQDC), Alianza Liberal (PAL), Unidad Demócrata Cristiana (UDC), Liberal Reformista (PLR), Fuerza Nacional Progresista (FNP), Revolucionario Independiente (PRI), Demócrata Popular (PDP) and Nacional Voluntad Ciudadana (PNVC).
