President Luis Abinader announced on 27 January 2021 his government will extend the Santo Domingo Metro. The Metro will be extended from Km 9 of the Duarte Highway to Los Alcarrizos to the west of Line 1. And from San Vicente de Paul Avenue to Los Mameyes in the East.
The Metro Office (Opret) also announced that Metro capacity is doubled from three cars to six cars.
