First class travel limited for government officials

The Abinader administration expects to save RD$650 million a year with the new measure that calls for most travel abroad by government officials to be in economy. There will be exceptions. 

“By instructions of the President of the Republic, the payment of first-class tickets for public officials is being limited,” said Administrative Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza. 

Jose Ignacio Paliza said that the government had been spending around RD$1.5 billion in travel expenditures for officials. Due to the pandemic, travel expenditures of government officials are already down to a minimum.
