Still time to get the vehicle stickers

There are 1,163,000 vehicles in the Dominican Republic that must renew their stickers (marbetes) this year, and there are nearly 300,000 that have not done so. The penalties for driving a vehicle without a renewal sticker of the Circulation Tax are steep: There is a RD$2,000 surcharge, plus the regular fee of either RD$1,500 or RD$3,000, according to the age of the vehicle, plus the towing of the car and paying of a storage fee. Besides all that, the owner must go to the car impound lot to retrieve his vehicle.

It is no longer possible to purchase the sticker on line, but the good news is that the government has extended the deadline for paying the circulation tax until 19 February 2021. And there are very nearly 1,500 places to do this (1,499 to be exact)

All the savings and loan bank offices (Popular, Cibao, Nacional etc), and all of the major commercial banks (Popular, BHD Leon, Santa Cruz, Reservas and others), plus all the offices of the Tax Agency (DGII) throughout the country are supplying the new sticker.

All that is needed is the money and a good photocopy of your car registration. That’s it. Money and a photocopy and you save the hassle.
