
Four Dominicans have their eyes on winning slots to the Tokyo Olympics in the Pan American Championships. The event will be held in the Dominican Republic this coming 18-25 April 2021.
Around 600 athletes are expected to participate. The event is the last qualifier for the Summer Olympics. The event would have taken place in 2020, but was rescheduled for this year.
Two women, Crismery Santana (87 kg) and Verónica Saladín (+87 kg), and two men, Zacarías Bonnat (81 kg) and Luis García (56 kg) will compete for the Olympic slots in the bubble for men and women scheduled to be held at the Emotions Hodelpa in Juan Dolio, San Pedro de Macorís.
The president of the weightlifting federation, William Ozuna said that as host for the event, the Dominican Republic will compete with a complete team of ten athletes in both women and men divisions. On the Dominican team are Cándida Vásquez and Dahiana Ortiz. The competitors also earn points to compete in the Central American and Caribbean Games scheduled for 2022.
