The Fourth Court of Instruction of the National District ordered Argenis Contreras to serve a year in preventive custody for the murder of lawyer and university professor Yuniol Ramirez on 11 October 2017. Contreras is accused as the material author of the murder of the UASD professor. He also faces charges of corruption at the Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (OMSA) where he was a close aid to director Manuel Rivas.
Contreras was ordered to serve the sentence at the Najayo Jail in San Cristobal. Judge Kenya Romero said that the accused could receive a sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
State prosecutors say that Argenis Contreras González arrived aboard a Ford Ranger model pickup truck, blue in color, with license plate EL03636, to the UASD campus, where the lawyer Yuniol Ramírez was teaching classes. There, Ramírez received a call from Contreras, who asked him to come down to talk.
The prosecutors say that Ramírez got into the vehicle, sitting across from Contreras in the front passenger seat. Moments later, Contreras shot Ramirez in the head and would later leave the university to decide how to dispose of the corpse and repair the vehicle that had a gun shot hole.
