
There were many close calls but at the end, the Aguilas Cibaeñas, representing the Dominican Republic, pulled off seven straight victories to win the 2021 Caribbean Series. The Dominican Republic was defending the title the Toros del Este had won for the country in 2020. The DR has now won 21 Caribbean Series championships of the 63 held, the most of any country.
The championship took place this year in Mazatlán, Mexico. The Aguilas defeated the Criollos de Caguas of Puerto Rico 4-1 in the final game on Saturday, 6 February 2021.
The Dominican Republic also placed seven players on the Caribbean Series All Stars team.
The Cibaeños won their sixth lifetime title in the Caribbean Classic, which for the country is led by the Tigres del Licey with 10, Leones del Escogido (4) and Toros del Este (1), who won it in the last version held on the Island of Enchantment, Puerto Rico. It is the fourth championship won by manager Felix Fermín. Juan Lagares was named the Most Valuable Player of the Series.
The Aguilas Cibaeñas are now in second place as the team that has won the most Caribbean Series pennants, with 6. The Licey Tigers of the Dominican Republic is the team that has won the most Caribbean Series. The Cangrejeros de Santurce of Puerto Rico is third in most wins.
