Architect and award-winning writer, Doi Gautier passes away

90-year old Manuel Salvador Gautier Castillón passed away on Monday, 8 February 2021. He is revered as an inspiring teacher by generations of architects in the Dominican Republic. He was a professor of architecture for over 20 years, sharing what he had learned throughout his prolific career. His own buildings and homes set their mark in Dominican architectural history. He was included among the thirty outstanding Codia members when the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODIA) commemorated its 30th anniversary.

Gautier graduated from the UASD as an architect-engineer. He also studied at Cornell University in New York and did post-graduate studies at the Universitá degli Studi, Rome, Italy.

He was prolific in writing on architecture. And then in the 1990s he turned to writing novels, with much success.
