
The Ministry of Defense has mobilized additional military equipment and personnel to the border with Haiti as the political unrest in that country gets worse. Haiti now has two Presidents.
Due to the riots in Port-au-Prince, Cap Haitien and other cities of Haiti, demanding the resignation of President Jovenel Moise, Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Luciano Diaz Morfa and the commander of the Army, Major General Julio Ernesto Florian Perez, toured the border and reported that the situation is normal at the side of the Dominican Republic. Defense Minister Diaz Morfa said that the military high command has taken all the necessary measures to prevent any situation.
The high command expressed that the Haitian-Dominican border is fully reinforced with more equipment and a significant increase in troops.
“Thank God, everything is normal, there have not been any problems on the border, but we maintain all the measures in place to prevent any situation,” emphasized Diaz Morfa.
Also the military reinforcement on the border includes sophisticated equipment, according to military authorities.
While the Army commander, Florian Perez indicated that 2,400 well-trained soldiers of the Constanza and Bayahonda units have been stationed on the border.
Last Friday, Super Tucano planes flew over the border of Dajabón, due to the political instability and unrest in the neighboring country.
Although in less numbers than on previous market days, hundreds of Haitians entered Dajabón to stock up on basic products, mainly food.
In Haiti, President Jovenel Moïse announced that the police had arrested more than 20 persons he accused of attempint to assassinate him.
The Dominican government also announced actions to foster jobs in the border provinces and the construction of important infrastructures in the area.
