The senator for La Altagracia province, where Punta Cana is located, has begun a campaign to tell the world that Bayahibe is in La Altagracia province. For years, Bayahibe, a small beach resort town, has promoted itself as part of La Romana province.
Now Senator Virgilio Cedano wants to get the people of Higuey, the capital city of La Altagracia province, to visit Bayahibe. He is coordinating efforts with the Bayahibe Association of Hotels and the representatives of Central Romana (Casa de Campo).
A large billboard on the Coral Highway (Oscar de la Renta Highway) that connects Punta Cana and La Romana now tells people that Bayahibe is in La Altagracia. The senator says that he is also working on easy bus transport from Higuey to Bayahibe.
