Marianna Vargas Gurilieva is the new DGCine director

President Luis Abinader named Marianna Hectorovna Vargas Gurilieva as the new director of the Dominican Film Agency (DGCine). The appointment is in Executive Decree 21-21 dated 13 January 2021. She becomes the third director of the film agency. She replaces Yvette Marichal who had been in the position since 2014.

At the time of her appointment, she was a corporate lawyer at the OMG law firm in Santo Domingo. At the firm, she specialized in legal planning and entertainment law.

Her biography states that she collaborated in the elaboration, revision and modification of the Law for the Promotion of the Dominican Cinematographic Activity and its implementing regulations. She is fluent in Spanish, English and Russian. She is an honors graduate of the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra in Santo Domingo (2006) and has a master of laws in business, corporate and maritime law from Erasmus Universiteit in Rotterdam, Netherlands (2008).
