The Abinader administration has published a print version of the payments made from the National Treasury account on 15 February 2021. The Treasury account encompasses payments made by the central government, not so the decentralized government entities. The 64-page publication circulated today in Diario Libre and Listín Diario. It makes transparent payments made to government contractors and suppliers from 1 to 31 January 2021 in pesos, US dollars and European Union euros.
The publication follows President Luis Abinader’s campaign promise for transparency in government.
The publication does not include wages, social programs, debt service nor current and capital transfers. It only includes payments to provides carried out through the Unique Treasury Account (Sistema de Cuenta Unica del Tesoro – CUT).
The publishing of the government disbursements had been a regular practice during the Balaguer governments that was discontinued during the first Leonel Fernandez administration nor in subsequent administrations (1996, 2004-2012). The practice was not reinstated during the Hipólito Mejía administration (2000-2004) nor during the Danilo Medina administrations (2012-2020). The intention is that the general public help monitor the efficient use of taxpayer money.
