Illegal flight ends in a cane field in Altagracia province

The Ministry of Defense, the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC), the National Drug Control Agency and the Attorney General of the Republic are all investigating the emergency landing of a twin motor Piper Seneca in the cane fields of La Altagracia province last Friday, 26 February 2021.

The aircraft carries a registration number from Brazil. It would have arrived here from an undisclosed location in Venezuela. Dominican radars picked up the plane late at night. An Air Force Super Tucano was sent to intercept it. The Air Force pilot forced the aircraft to make an emergency landing on a sugarcane field belonging to the La Romana Corporation, near the Batey la Romanita.

As reported, tactical units from the DNCD were mobilized and reached the aircraft, but it was empty. Maps and extra fuel cans were found, as well as a satellite phone and some personal documents. Shortly after that, authorities intercepted a Jeep Grand Cherokee. During the pursuit, the occupants of the vehicle ran into the cane fields. Personal documents and a cell phone were found inside the vehicle.

The National Police, the DNCD and the Armed Forces are on the trail of these men, one of whom is thought to be wounded.
