
The Dominican Government reported on the first weeks of the National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19 (Vacúnate RD) during a press conference at the Presidential Palace. More than 70,000 have been vaccinated throughout the country.
Vice President Raquel Peña said that Phase IA and Phase IB have been completed, with almost the totality of the Covid-19 health staff and the medical staff in general. Medical staff is receiving vaccines at the Dominican Medical Association headquarters and at hospitals.
Next, the government began Phase IC with the vaccination of residents of senior homes and those over 70 years of age. Pre-school and elementary school teachers are included in the Phase IC to accelerate plans to reopen face-to-face classes at the schools. Adults with comorbidities that are 60+ are also being vaccinated.
Peña said the first phase of Vacúnate RD covers around 1.5 million people and will continue through April.
The Vice President was accompanied by the new Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera, the director of the National Health Service Mario Lama, the director of Promese/Cal Adolfo Pérez, the director of C5i Rear Admiral Lee Ballester, the director of Communications Milagros Germán, financial advisor of the Executive Branch Pablo Portes and Deputy Minister of Collective Health Ivelisse Acosta.
The list of vaccination stations can be downloaded from the new VacunateRD website. The more than 600 sites were said to have been stocked and are operating. The list is updated as new sites become available.
The vaccines are free in the Dominican Republic for Dominican citizens and legal residents. The first batches of vaccines are the Covishield manufactured in India (Oxford-AstraZeneca) and the Sinovac from the People’s Republic of China.
