
The rector of Universidad Acción Pro Educación y Cultura (UNAPEC), Franklyn Holguin Haché bestowed the symbolic degree to four outstanding Dominicans, including the founder of the Punta Cana tourism destination, Frank Rainieri. The ceremony took place at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the National Theater on Wednesday, 3 March 2021.
Frank Rainieri was honored for his contributions to the Dominican tourism industry. Others honored on 4 March was Elena Viyella de Paliza in recognition for her contributions to industry in the Dominican Republic. Both received the Doctor Honoris Causa in Economic and Business Sciences.
Frank Rainieri graduated from the first business administration class at UNAPEC when it was known as Instituto de Estudios Superiores, some 54 years ago. “I feel very honored by this recognition, and sharing the award of illustrious Dominicans,” he remarked during the ceremony. He thanked his professors, who gave him the business knowledge and instilled in him the principles on which APEC was founded.
Historian Manuel García Arévalo, one of the country’s leading Taino Indian experts, was also honored. And educator María Amalia León Cabral, founder of the Lux Mundi school. Both received the degrees of Doctor Honoris Causa in Humanities.
Universities confer the honorary titles to recognize the special merits of persons.
