
Central Bank tourism statistics indicate that non-resident air arrivals for January 2021 were 63.2% less than for January 2020. The first case of Covid-19 was reported on 1 March 2020, and Dominican airports were closed to regular traffic by 20 March.
Central Bank statistics reveal the resilience of non-Dominican residents when traveling to the Dominican Republic. The stats indicate that foreign travelers were down 72.6% (344,059 fewer travelers), while non-resident Dominicans were only down 9.5% (7,861 fewer travelers).
The total arrival of resident and non-resident passengers by air during January 2021 was 251,352 passengers, for a year-over-year variation of -60.5%, representing 385,527 fewer passengers compared to the same month in 2020.
