“This government has decided to declare San Juan and the southwest region in a state of emergency. To give you an idea of the state of poverty here, in this province alone, just under 7,000 homes still have dirt floors,” tweeted President Luis Abinader after visiting the province over the weekend.

The President said that all these projects will be under the coordination of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development and that he will personally assume their follow-up because he considers that it is a duty given the deplorable situation that this once productive zone is going through.
