“The PLD is back, with more ideas, with more strength, with more talent and absolutely no one will be able to stop it,” said former President Danilo Medina during his acceptance speech after being named president of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD). The PLD lost the Presidency, its majority in both houses of Congress, and most of the largest municipalities in the 2020 general elections
Medina also called on the PLD members to feel proud of belonging to the organization, which in its 47 years of history “has yielded great fruits that no one will be able to erase.”
Medina highlighted the Santo Domingo Metro, the Santo Domingo Cable Car, the overpasses, the reduction of poverty, the creation of jobs, 26,000 classrooms completed and 10,000 under construction, the implementation of the extended school day, the 911 system, construction of thousands of kilometers of highways, hospital facilities, record figures in tourism and the doubling of electricity generation in seven years, among notable achievements.
The former President said that in his administration as president of the PLD, he will put his best effort every day to continue improving the country, raising Dominicans’ living conditions. “You can be sure that sooner rather than later, the people will fix their eyes on us and we will show them that we heard their message and we are back,” said Medina.
During a General Plenary of delegates of the PLD held at the Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, the members of the Political Committee were sworn in with Danilo Medina as president of the organization and Charlie Mariotti as its secretary-general, for the period 2021-2025.
