Leonardo Faña sent to two months preventive custody

The Court of Appeals of the National District ordered two months of preventive custody against the Dominican Agrarian Institute’s former director, Leonardo Faña. Faña is accused of sexual assault against his former finance director, María Isabel Flores Encarnación. Flores presented charges in January 2021, but later desisted from continuing the case. The Attorney General Office prosecutors have continued the case.

The case will be heard by presiding judge Nancy Joaquín, at the Third Criminal Chamber of the court of Appeals of the National District. The case is set to be heard next Monday.

Meanwhile, the official is detained at the jail of the Palace of Justice of Ciudad Nueva. He maintains he is innocent of the charges.
