The Jarabacoa City Council has taken action to reduce congestion on the heavily traveled Federico Basilis Highway between La Vega and Jarabacoa. Traffic on the curvy and often steep road up into the mountains is often at a near standstill due to heavy trucks that struggle up or down the road.
The city council now has prohibited parking along some of the most congested stretches of the road to ensure the flow of traffic during the Easter holidays. The measures will be in effect now on all weekends.
With the exception of smaller two-axle trucks hauling vegetables to market, no big trucks are allowed in Jarabacoa for the Easter holidays. Starting this Friday, 26 March, no double axle trucks will be allowed from 4pm until 5am. Every weekend from then on, all heavy trucks will be prohibited from circulating from 5am until 10 pm.
