The Spanish language version of People magazine has named Dr. Denise Nuñez one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in 2021.
People en Español reports: “Pediatrician Denise Núnez -CEO of Divino Niño Pediatric PLLC- has had to overcome many obstacles on her road to success. “I started to realize that there was indeed favoritism, racism,” the 50-year-old doctor, of Dominican roots, recounts of her professional beginnings. “It is more difficult to be a woman. With a lot of effort, the doors of the intensive care unit at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx opened for her, a job she alternates with administering vaccinations against covid-19 and running her clinic and her foundation Niño de la Caridad, as well as the show The LOTF – Leaders of the Future (BronxNet). “
Dr. Nuñez heads a pediatric urgent care clinic in the Bronx, in New York City, and holds several teaching positions. She has specialized in Pediatrics and Intensive Care for children, and her clinic is exclusively ER/Intensive Care. The clinic serves a population characterized by immigrants and low-income families, often without insurance. It provides urgent services often not available to this population in other city hospitals.
Her biography on the Niño de la Caridad Foundation reads: “Dr. Nunez is board certified in general pediatrics as well as a Pediatric Critical Care Physician. She received her medical degree at Pedro Henriquez Ureña University in Dominican Republic and completed her pediatric residency at Albert Einstein School of Medicine– Bronx Lebanon Hospital in New York. Dr. Nunez completed her fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, Albert Einstein College of Medicine where she serves as an Assistant professor of Pediatrics and trains residents and fellows in pediatrics.
Dr. Nunez is driven by her passion to provide medical care and relief in areas where health care is limited or difficult. Through missionary trips from the Dominican Republic to El Salvador, she has touched the lives of patients and their families in those countries. In the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, Dr. Nunez instituted patient and family-centered care rounds in the Pediatric Critical Care Unit, ensuring that patients and families are the focus care and are treated with dignity, respect, and with consideration of their cultural values.”
