Judges exclude important evidence from Odebrecht corruption case

The judges hearing the US$92 million Odebrecht bribes case decided to exclude evidence presented by state prosecutors that was in Portuguese. This includes a communication sent by the Federal Minister of Brazil to former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez, the acceptance of guilt USA-DOJ, and the signed leniency agreement. The judges also excluded testimony by Marcos Vasconcelos Cruz, the former director of Odebrecht in the DR.

The judges accepted the arguments to this end presented by Andres Bautista’s defense, represented by lawyer Carlos Salcedo adhered to by other defendants in the case.

Chief prosecutor Wilson Camacho said that the testimony of the Brazilians is the most important in the case. “Each of those guilt explanations have been translated into Spanish and should be incorporated in the case,” said Camacho of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecution Agency (Pepca). He announced the appeal of the decision by the judges.
