Woman arrested in attempt to smuggle 5 kilos of heroin

A Colombian woman was arrested last week with five kilos of heroin in her luggage. The drugs were detected by the canine unit that routinely searches luggage at the Punta Cana International Airport.

The woman was arrested by agents of the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) and Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC), in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The substance weighed 5.52 kilograms, according to the analysis of the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF).

“The heroin was hidden (camouflaged) inside two black female girdles, which were found inside the suitcase of the 43-year old foreigner,” states a DNCD press release.

The DNCD reports that this is the second case of heroin seizure in Dominican airports airports. It is recalled that a woman of Philippine nationality was arrested at the terminal of the Americas with 2.68 kilograms of the same substance, earlier this year.
