President Luis Abinader was in La Romana on Tuesday, 23 March 2021 to inaugurate the Paseo Marítimo La Caleta. The promenade is located at the beach of La Caleta in the center of La Romana city. For years it has been popular for eating fried fish. Now renovated, it is a worthwhile place to go for a leisure stroll any time of the day. The Abinader administration invested RD$45 million in the urban renewal of the city beach area.
The urban intervention included improvements to the 900 meters access road, now named Boulevard Turístico de la Salud, a pedestrian street and construction of sidewalks.
Abinader commented: “It needed the right intervention that will enhance its socio-economic development. We have paid attention to this area, not only for what it offers as a tourist destination, but also, because we wanted to lend a hand to create jobs by improving its facilities, as well as awakening the interest of visitors and foreigners.”
The renovated area is already delivering results. President Abinader was also present for the ground-breaking for the US$17 million Hilton Garden Inn La Caleta in the renovated city beach area of La Romana. Mayor League baseball player Edwin Encarnación is one of the investors in the new hotel.
The 126-room Hilton Garden Inn is the latest Hilton to be built in the Dominican Republic. In addition to the Hilton La Romana in Bayahibe-Dominicus, the chain is the chosen operator for the new Hilton Garden Inn at the Downtown Punta Cana, the Hampton by Hilton Punta Cana Airport and Commercial Center, and the Curio Collection by Hilton Santiago.
