Panama changes visa requirements for Dominicans

The government of Panama established new regulations for the granting of tourist visas to Dominicans. The visa application mechanism for those interested in traveling to Panama now needs to be made in the person’s country of origin and/or residence or through legal proxy before the Panamanian National Migration Service.

Since 2018, only a tourist card had been required for Dominicans to travel to Panama. The idea then was to encourage Dominicans to go shopping in the Caribbean Colon Free Zone (CFZ). This was part of a tourism promotion strategy, which included the authorization of retail sales within the area, previously reserved only for wholesale trade.
