The DR in the Gallup Law & Order and the World Happiness reports

The recently released 2020 Global Law and Order Report has placed the Dominican Republic a bit deeper in the middle of the index that covers 144 countries. The latest report offers a baseline for the world’s security in the post-pandemic world and how the world moves forward amid global civil unrest related to law enforcement.

In the Latin American region, the Dominican Republic is listed seventh of 17 countries. Confidence in the local police is rated at 48%.

Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic is now listed 73rd of 149 countries in the World Happiness Report for the period 2018-2020. The report shows a decline in well-being in the country. It indicates, nevertheless, that average wellbeing increased from 5 to 5.7 and life expectancy increased from 71.3 years for the period 2006-08 to 73.9 years for 2017-19. The Happiness Report indicates the country suffered one of the highest percentage changes in social welfare due to changes in GDP per head and unemployment and deaths from Covid-19 with -2.7 when the global average is -1.0. Only Peru, South Africa and Colombia fared worse than the DR.
